Answering the call – on an iPhone
If we look at the century we’re currently living in, though the first decade has barely transpired, we might recall Charles Dickens’ fitting words “It is the best of times, it is the worst of times.” Indeed God’s graces and mercies are pouring in abundance over our generation. We are witnessing the power of God in the numerous relentless pro-life movements, conversions in Hollywood, prominent apologists bringing millions back to the flock and not in the least the revolutionary solidified, clear, and uplifting sexual teaching of the Church!
However, this revival is greatly offset by moral and social decadence all throughout the world. As apostles of Christ we do not want to let ourselves be disheartened by what we see, on the contrary, we try to consistently recall Christ’s words: In this world you will have tribulation, but take courage, I have overcome the world” (Jn 16:32) and with zeal and courage persist in proclaiming the Kingdom of the One Who has already overcome this world.
In this era the Holy Spirit is setting hearts ablaze, perhaps more than ever, to answer their Creator’s call, to know, love and serve Him, and we are grateful that even a spark of this fire has touched our own hearts. We often wonder how to serve God and God has ready answers to all of these fundamental questions. We have come to learn that God wants us to serve Him through the gifts He has endowed us with. As young, Christians, after having sacrificed years of work for companies where our talents were often squandered on worldly and futile projects we find no greater joy or peace than turning now around telling God “You give us everything and we would like to return everything to You”
As young professionals every single one of us can vouch to the magnitude of the media’s impact in our lives. As such, we feel that the calls of Pope Paul VI, John Paul II and Benedict XVI to use the media as tools for promoting the Gospel are deeply personal invitations for us. Particularly, in this age, we feel compelled to develop a strong Christian presence on the newest media platforms, namely the Smartphones and Social Networks, which allow users to carry the global universe in their pockets. We have no doubt that with these kind of tools available St. Peter and St. Paul would call these the best of times!
Without neglecting the countless potential for harm we turn our hearts toward our Heavenly Father and ask Him to allow His humble servants, to use this ever powerful tool to impart, if only, traces of His love, His light, His hope, His life breathing spirit to His beloved children.
